About
Car enthusiast Gregory Scott was on a flight and noticed someone had left a magazine in the front seat pocket. The magazine was a 4x4 type magazine with the main article about the 3 best 4x4’s ever. It was an in depth article but focused mostly on the Jeep Willy and the Land Rover Defender. Scott had really not heard much about the Land Rover Defender before other than being used in the African Safari. Intrigued by the article Scott found himself wanting one, a Defender that is. After about a year of research he finally pulled the trigger and purchased a D90. He worked with a fairly well known company from Europe to have one built. Later he decided to order a second Defender a D110 to resale in an effort to help pay for the one he wanted to keep, assuming a profit could be made.
After nearly a year of waiting the day finally came and the Defenders arrived. From about 10 feet away they looked amazing! However the closer you got the worse they looked. The exciting day was soon over and Scott was left with now two Defenders that were at best a very mediocre attempt of a frame on restoration. During the next two years Scott rebuilt the D110 and sold it at a loss. He kept the D90 as a reminder of that feeling he had the day it arrived. Major Disappointment!
Still having a burning passion for the Defenders, Scott did two more years of research before going to Europe and partnering with one of the most well known Land Rover Defender builders on the planet. From this relationship the brand King Defender was formed. Today, any Defender with the badging King Defender on it gives the buyer a certain sense of security knowing they have a true frame off, nut and bolt, restoration, licensed and registered in the USA. Something Scott didn't get but has made it his mission to give to other Defender enthusiasts.
King Defender recommends keeping these vehicles as number matching. That doesn’t mean we cannot swap for an LS3 with auto transmission for you but over time Scott truly believes the number matching Defenders will be worth more, keeping them authentic. Investing in a King Defender doesn’t mean you shouldn't drive it even though it is a collector. Driving them is what it’s all about. These are restored to the highest quality but meant to have fun and drive.
